Dr. Hari Sugumar

Dr. Sugumar, a specialist cardiologist and electrophysiologist, completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2005. He specialized in Cardiology through Austin Health in Melbourne and sub-specialized in Electrophysiology, catheter ablation and Cardiac Devices, including cardiac re-synchronization therapy, at Austin Health. He completed an advanced clinical fellowship in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Devices in British Columbia, Canada, and further pursued his passion for helping people with arrhythmia by undertaking a 3-year combined Electrophysiology training (including complex ablation techniques) and a PhD through the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, University of Melbourne, Alfred Health, and Royal Melbourne Hospitals.

Dr. Sugumar was awarded the combined NHRMC-NHF research fellowship, RACP JJ Billings award for excellence, and the Nick Christopher PhD Scholarship at RMH for 2017-2020. His research interests include paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation and the impact of AF in heart failure (reduced ejection fraction and preserved ejection fraction). He has designed and executed international randomized controlled studies and multiple multi-centre trials to assess the impact of catheter ablation in these conditions. Dr. Sugumar has several publications in some of the world’s leading journals such as New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), The Lancet, Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), European Heart Journal, Heart Rhythm, and more.

Currently practicing at Alfred Health, St Vincent’s Hospital, Cabrini, Epworth, and Warringal Hospitals, Dr. Sugumar is dedicated to providing high-quality and personalised care to his patients. With his extensive training and expertise in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Devices, he is able to manage complex cardiac arrhythmias with the latest and most effective techniques. His commitment to patient care and his contributions to the field of cardiology make him a valuable asset to the medical community and a trusted healthcare provider to his patients.
